has anyone else heard of this?! these are brand new! I just found it when I was looking at an ebay auction for a giant Amiga tower. The Amiga owner put one of these
in the tower in place of a hard drive; or in addition to...
Wow… PCMCIA? How old is this? And inexpensive, too…
I have one of these currently installed in my Mystique Color Classic. It works, but only if you stick the CF card into a PCMCIA/CF adapter card and the adapter into the card reader. You can't just stick the CF card into the CF card slot because it will show up at LUN 1, and it seems that the Mac has a problem with that. Using the PCMCIA/CF adapter, your card will show up at LUN 0.
As far as the SCSI driver goes, I am using Silverlining 5.8.3 to format my CF cards. The patched Apple hard disk utilities will format the CF, but always crash on me when I write stuff to the cards. I have found Silverlining (using Software Handshake) to be most compatible with all the retro-Macs I have. It's not the fastest driver that way, but who cares about speed anyway? ;-)
Oh, one more thing. With the PCMCIA Adapter in place, this solution is almost 8.5" long front to back. It is a tight fit into my Color Classic and will not fit into other "retro" Macs at all (used a different solution in my Portable).
