James and John talk about Dark Castle. eBay Finds are a B&H Apple 2, peculiar Apple light, and rare Lisa pin. News includes an Apple tablet that never was, an interview with an Apple I owner, OS 8 petition, and classic Nitrozac paintings.
Slight spoiler below as to what happens if you topple the Black Knight. You have been warned.
Thanks for the podcast on Dark Castle. That game was the reason I got into vintage Macs! I bought my first Mac, an SE/30, from the company I worked for for $50 just to play Dark Castle because I was hooked on it and they were going to get rid of the SE/30. This would have been in the early 90's I guess. We used to go up to the "presentation center" where the Macs were at lunchtime and play games.
At any rate, I heard there is an Easter Egg in it but have not had the chance to try it. If you set the date to 12/25 and start Dark Castle, the intro image of the Great Hall is different. I have not tested this since I am working on the SE/30 now and it is disassembled, and for some reason household projects are taking precedence. Let us know if this is true!
Possible Spoiler ahead:
Also, I have completed the easy level, but have no photographic proof. I was excited to topple the Black Knight only to find the game just started over at the next harder level. I was disappointed after all that work, that was it. No huge fanfare or anything. Now, maybe if he is defeated at the end of the hard level something special happens, I don't know, I can't throw rocks that fast in order to find out. :-)
