Quadra 840av too much?

Is a grand too much to ask for an early working mac Quadra?

To be fair, this is the same model Kerry Conran used to finnish up his early film trailer for "Sky Captain and The World Of Tomorrow".

I'm a big fan of the movie and all but I think this price is still just a little steep.

What do you guys think... and how do you put a dollar value on a retro-mac?

I wouldn't pay that much for one... It's probably best if you try to source one locally.

Maybe in another 10 or 15 years we can look back and say "Remember when Macs were plentiful and selling for mere pennies?"

You can already say that, depending on when you started collecting... In the early '00s, compact Macs were supposedly more common.
