Ever wonder what the ROM SIMM socket was good for on the Mac SE/30, IIx, IIcx, IIfx, IIci, and IIsi? Sure, you could shove 32-bit clean ROMs in there and run OS 8.1 with some patches. Big deal. How about a custom re-flashable ROM SIMM you could stick an entire OS image onto? And some applications, too? So cool. Almost makes me wish I had an older Mac kicking around.
The more solutions we have on hand to work around dying SCSI disks, the better!
