Does anyone have a suggestion for a video card upgrade? I have a Powermac g4 500mhz duel that is currently running ATI Rage 128 pro video.  I assume this is what came with the machine.  I don't want to spend a lot of money, but would like to improve the graphics performance.

For video cards I guess its what you want out of your Mac, there are 2 different card makers, ATI and Nvidia, both have there fans, you did not mention your video cards memory size, but look for 64 MB to start or 128 MB should do the trick, your card is also a AGP model.

Hi Marc Dietrich,

if you have a PC with AGP Slot, buy a XFX 5200 PC Graphic Card and flash the BIOS with a MAC ROM. Link: http://apple-schrauber.blogspot.com/2008/11/xfx-5200-fr-powermac-g4-angekommen.html.

Thanks for the info, for my Power Mac G4 "Sawtooth" I use a 128 mb Ati video card or installed in the PCI slot, a nvidia 128 mb card, just depends on what my uses are for it.   I do not have a PC, so flashing video cards are out....

I bought a pre-flashed Geforce 6200 256MB on ebay for my Sawtooth and am very happy with it.  Supports all the graphic features in OS X like core image, quartz extreme, core video, core animation etc.  Only paid about $70 US for it.

I highly recommend this seller if you go the ebay route: http://shop.ebay.ca/local338/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&a...

I just got a 1 ghz dual processor mirror door powermac tower and a 17" ADC monitor to go with it.   I can see why this would cost over $3,500 when new.   It is very versatile and the monitor was state of the art when it cam out.   It runs well on 10.5.8 and can do many things a modern mac can do.

Welcome Michael, its a little quiet here, but your questions or comments will be responded to or answered in time.   Sounds like you have a nice Mac, keep it clean, they that one can run hot if the air intake gets plugged up, just look under the front legs, the air intake traps dust bunnies better then a swifter can....

How much memory are you running and what kind of video card does it have?

Just a heads up to you PowerMac G4 users, I have a side job repairing Mac's, the guy I work for loves Mirror drive G4's and some Quicksilver G4's and he has parts for both, sadly there is little demand for the G4's, only G5's and ibooks are big sellers.....  I could get him to sell parts if anyone is looking for them.
