I picked up a StarMax 3000 from Sean's garage. I upgraded the vram to 4mb and put in a L2 Cache G3 500mhz Accelerator in it with 160 mb ram

It boots off of a 8gb CF card on a neat ide/cf adapter.

I run Mac OS 8.5 and Beos 4.5

i own 2 Umax clones
SuperMac C600/200

SuperMac S900/200

original purchased, not because these were better or cheaper, but at the moment the mac equivalent in Belgium weren't ready for delivery
ordered the mac equivalent and had to wait 6 months

I have to keep my StarMax on 8.5 because the BeOS launcher doesn't work on 8.6 or higher.

I have a PowerTower 180 that got a lot of upgrades during it's life.  I maxed out the hard drives, added a CD-R drive, a TV Tuner PCI card, RAM, a new CPU adughter card.  I had so much fun pushing that poor thing beyond what it should have been capable of doing.

At first it was great just to get so much computer for the money.  I upgraded from a Preforma 600CD.  I got a huge (for the time) twenty inch Sony monitor.  There I sent.  I believe at sometime I had an internal Zip Drive.

It's in the closet now, it hasn't been used for years.  It has stickers all over it for decoration.  There is nothing wrong with it, I've just outgrown it and it wasn't worth upgrading any longer versus buying a new computer.

Aside from my MacPlus, this was one of my favourite computers, I had lots of thousands of fun hours in the late nineties with this machine.  It served me well.
