By swapping out the stock SE/30 ROM with a IIsi (or IIfx) ROM, it becomes possible to run Macintosh System 7.6.1 and Mac OS 8.1. Mac OS 8.x also enables networking with even the newest OS X Macs (for SE/30's equipped with Ethernet, as mine is).
