"Unable to find driver for this platform"?  10.4?  On a first-generation 15” Aluminum? Hmm. That screams bad hardware, bad install media, or a corrupted OS/damaged filesystem.

Yea... It was my Tiger DVD. It's apparently gone bad. I got Panther installed on it now, and looking for a new Tiger disc online.

Or you could use FireWire target disk mode and clone a known good 10.4.11 machine onto the PowerBook with Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper...

Ah! Thanks for that tip Derek! I do have a powermac G4 with a good 10.4.11-installation on it.
