I have a new job. I inherited someone else's office. I'm up to my ears in brochures, CDs, and cables from the 1990s.
When I need a break, I start cleaning up one small part of the office. On Friday, I reached into a filthy bag of ancient CD-ROMs and felt what I thought was a "double album" CD case with a grooved backing. "That's an odd texture for a CD case," I thought.
But oh no, no, no...
Also, it's nice to see that software development processes have matured so greatly in the last 20 years. Inside the case was a paper insert: "WARNING: Inserting the Software Release 1.0 disk while running Release 0.8 or 0.9 will destroy the Software Release 1.0 disk. Follow the upgrade instructions in /Upgrading to Release 1.0."
I'm so glad we never have dumb catastrophic bugs like that anymore. [COUGH]
