"I have maxed mine out to the hilt. I put in a 128 Mb Video card. 1.5 Gig of ram and a 128 Gig IDE drive using a sonnet IDE / firewire USB card.  I do have a Video capture card that has an additional break out box. These computers really do run…"

"Not quite a 8600/9600 but a very close relative being the PEX 9700"

"The press release for the 8600 stated 'Near' broadcast quality performance - hmmm... Not happy with the video capture performance at 640x480 - too many dropped frames. Next step, an Adaptec 2940u2W scsi controller card to improve data…"

"Thanks for the info, I'm still learning what this 8600 can do. My first copy of Premiere 5.0 came bundled with a Matrox capture card and breakout box, a very good deal at the time! The drive I found on eBay for $9.95 is a Seagate 10,000 RPM…"

"One of the issues regarding video capture in an 8600 was the amount of video ram you had installed on the motherboard. Because this model didn't have a PCI video card you were limited to 4 mb of video ram which was shared by the display and the…"

"I had an extra 2GB drive that would work for the system and I found that the newer scsi drives are cheaper and faster than the old 50 pin drives. With an adapter, this 38 GB Quantum will make a good secondary drive."

"Another surprise. A Sonnet 400 G4 processor. Not stock, but I'll take it. One day I may find the stock 300 604e."

"Just one more thing to check. So far, better than expected. Next, open it up and.... So that's the trouble - upper left cage empty (no hard drive). No dust bunnies either, this case is really clean."

Mac Number 6.... iBook G3 Clamshell

I mentioned this in my last post here, and finally it has come, a 300Mhz Blueberry Model has been added to my collection. Its become my favourite Mac to type on, purely because there is something magical about OS 9. Even with a paltry 32MB RAM, This machine performs admirably in Mac OS 9.2.2 and I hope to add a 256MB RAM chip and also a copy of OS X to this machine at a later stage. An upgraded hard drive will also be apart of this process. This machine nicely rounds out my Mac Collection by… Continue
