Phreakout replied to Rick's discussion Beige Apple microphone on modern computer??
"Hi, Rick - This is a microphone designed for the old Mac LC, LC II, LC III series and the like.  It won't work in any modern day Mac due to a different way of being wired and different requirements in order for that mic to work. …"

Phreakout replied to Alex Santos's discussion iMac (Summer 2001) optical drive replacement
"Alex,  For your model (not sure of which speed CPU), they did have a 4x CD-RW slot loading drives as a stock spec.  I can't seem to find the Apple part numbers that match as a replacement for the CD-RW, but the slot load CD-ROM part…"

Phreakout replied to Ben Wallin's discussion Correct system tools disk to format non-apple drive
"I may have what you're looking for.  I've got quite a library of resources for older Macs.  By any chance, do you have another older Mac to act as a "bridge" between myself and the SE/30?  If not, I can custom…"

Phreakout replied to Brian's discussion Time for a strategic downgrade?
"Brian, I can sympathize with what you're going through.  I, too, share your frustration.  First off, don't feel alienated or like some Luddite under Snow Leopard.  There are many of us who still run that version on their…"

"Actually, Mel, you're awfully close.  To get OS 9 working again: Step 1.) After copying the System Folder (like you did earlier), open that folder and drag the System file out of it.  Step 2.) Close the System Folder. Step 3.) Drag…"

Phreakout replied to James's discussion Episode 265: Dukakis for President
"Listening to this episode got me to reminiscing when I got hit with the Sevendust virus.  About 6 years ago, I had set up my Power Mac 7500 with a clean install and was building up my software library and other resources.  As I was…"

Phreakout replied to iMac022390's discussion iMac G3 ethernet connect help? (OS 9)
"1.) Do you plan on having more than one Mac connected online at the same time?  If so, I would recommend you purchase/acquire a cheap Ethernet Hub/Router with x-number-of-port switch.  This will allow you to share the Internet connection…"

Phreakout commented on macuser77's group iPhone / iPod Touch Retromac Users
"My iPod Touch 2g's been very finicky.  Had to replace the battery (obviously) and the headphone jack (after getting torqued the wrong way).  Got both replacement parts installed, went to reassemble everything back together and the LCD…"

"Marc,  what's up with Wegener Media?  Are they still in business, just really slow to respond or are they being complete jerks to everybody?  I'd no doubt jump on the G4 upgrade bandwagon, provided they were willing to…"

"I had to replace the hinges in my Pismo.  Found a good old stock pair on eBay; both sides for ~$15 + shipping!  A great deal, considering all others wanted them for ~$24 and up per side.  >:(  Replaced them both in less than…"

Blackout Day, projects, etc.

Well, with the protests happening all day today due to SOPA and PIPA, I too am joining in and going dark for that time.  As un-political as I am, I do know when an idea should just remain that and not some form of censorship.  I don't want to go into details, but both laws are bad for everyone who's "online".  As Ben Franklin once said, "To sacrifice freedom for some temporary safety, deserves neither freedom nor safety."  And that speaks true for those 2 bills going through our government. …See More

Phreakout replied to Lim Thye Chean's discussion Transfer files between Mac
"Sounds like you may need a "bridge" Mac as a go between OS 9 and Snow Leopard; say Tiger or earlier.  If you have one, make sure you enable AppleTalk File Sharing on both Macs.    Note: Fetch version 4.0.3 is the last one…"

Phreakout replied to David Merrill's discussion G5 Power PC iMac conflicts with newer airport?
