Welcome to the Apple IIGS Generation!

Hi, I am Thye Chean, and I am an Apple IIGS user and programmer. I have owned every major version of Apple II except for Apple //c+ and the platimum Apple //e (with numeric keypad).

My favourite computer at all time is the Apple IIGS.

I operate the site Virtual GS (http://virtualgs.larwe.com) that teaches kids PASCAL and BASIC programming using Apple IIGS emulation. My son Ding Wen (currently 9 years old) is probably the world youngest Apple IIGS programmer! You are welcome to take a look!

This page shows our love for the Apple IIGS and other machines in this family - you are welcome to check out the photo albums and videos.

You can contact me at thyechean @ gmail . com.

The Apple IIGS Show

We started a little project for our beloved Apple IIGS - which we called The Apple IIGS Show.

This is a series of short video showing kids using the Apple IIGS computer. Each video will show some of the best software that a kid can do on the computer. We will also show how to do programming on an Apple IIGS.

This show is hosted Ding Wen, with the help of his sisters. This is a show for kids by kids!… Continue

Apple II games coming to Android!

When I was young, I wrote my first Apple II space arcade game called Infiltrator. It is my first assembly program and has multiple levels where the user needs to control a spaceship and navigate through waves of alien attacks.

Many years later, my son Ding Wen wrote his first space arcade game for the Apple IIGS -… Continue

Doodle Kids for Google Android

Due to a harddisk crash of the iMac hosting the iPhone SDK, we are now unable to do iPhone development until we get the machine back and set up the environment again. In the meantime, we focus entirely on Google Android development. Android OS is so fun to program and it finally gives me a chance to teach my son Ding Wen Java programming.

The result? Ding Wen has ported his Doodle Kids (an Apple IIGS and iPhone program) to Android phone! Doodle Kids for Android has some features not available i… Continue

Android Programming for Apple IIGS and iPhone developers

My son Ding Wen is porting some of his Apple IIGS and iPhone programs to Google Android phone.

There are 2 ways to do it. The first way is to embed a WebKit browser (WebView) to host a web application. The 2nd way is to use Canvas.

Using WebView
Write a web application and tested them to work under Android Browser. If you have… Continue

Are you still in trouble with your 7200 to VGA connection ?
It is one like this eBay item, No. 230346392796 and should be easy to get for an reasonable price (about one dollar).

You can read this at Damian's photo you commented on, or here:

Interesting but incomplete informations about the three basic models 225, 250 and 275 of the 5500 can be read at the everymac.com.
There is an original black 225 here, serial number beginning with 'CK' - which stands for Ireland, so they do exist - not at the eveymac.com. And there are the black 250 MHz ones, called "DE" (Director's Edition).
As far as I know these were sold in Australia and New Zealand (most of them ?).
It's sad these S/N labels peel off so easily.

Found a few great Apple IIGS music recordings on the net, added for enjoyment. You can find more here: http://www.whatisthe2gs.apple2.org.za/ (this is the best Apple IIGS web site out there).

Updated GScript BASIC to 1.5.
GScript BASIC is an Applesoft BASIC lookalike that I designed for my daughters. Any Applesoft BASIC programmers can picked it up very easily!
