My Mac Collecting

This was is based on an article I did for my local Mac user group (WAMUG - Wessex Apple Mac User Group) a few years ago:

What a cruel end to a faithful piece of hardworking equipment which you have spent so many hours of pleasure with. Luckily, in the past I’ve been able to be a conduit to passing on these machines to people unable to afford a computer of their own. Over 40 Macs have been passed on this way, but what about the machines which are becoming too old to meet a basic need… Continue

You bought the 500 and 190 on eBay? I saw those the other day - you definitely got a good bargain there, especially since the 500 apparantly has a PPC upgrade. They should be good machines once kitted out with hard drives, though finding a SCSI one for the 500 may be a problem. The 190 on the other hand has an IDE interface making life much easier - you could even use a compact flash card with a CF to IDE adaptor, or a PCMCIA compact flash adaptor. That seller had some quite good stuff listed - I bought the Farallon iPrint Localtalk to Ethernet adaptor, also for 99p.

Got me a few macs since we talked last. Got a TAM, Color Classic, Graphics Tablet. working on striking a deal on a portable (1989). Will lay off after that for a few weeks.

BTW- is there a collectors group here?

Thanks. Where do you find the most hare-core old Mac machine collectors elsewhere on the web? Any one place stand out in your mind?
