Hello everyone! I've been thinking of the strangest, yet most awesome thing all day long. What if I was to enter the Retro Challenge contest?? I'm not good with hardware, I don't know how to program, and I'm not good with artistic stuff other than photography, some music, and writing!! But wait!! Maybe that's the answer??!! Didn't I hear James once talking about people entering short stories, even full length novels in the contest that were written on retro computers?? I do believe that I… Continue

So, the hello Show page header was looking a bit... how shall I say... aliased?
Yuk. Rough edges like that have no place in the 21st century.
Behold, an antialiased version of the classic motif! Based directly off of the original ad, no less.…

Well everyone, this is my first post on my returned iMac!! I love the fact that I have my baby back at home, and that my internet is back up & running!! I think that my graphics card may have been bad from the get go, as my screen seems brighter, crisper, and just overall better looking than it ever did before. I really am glade to have my iMac home, and I'm so glade it wasn't anything more than a bad graphics card!!
I do have some good news tonight! I have secured the second piece… Continue

I got a call from Database Systems this afternoon, and my iMac is all fixed up!! :-) :-) The repair tech told me that they ordered a new graphics card to see if that was the problem. Everything booted up like it's supossed to after everything was put back together!
I'm going to go picked it up before I go to work tomorrow morning. I prbably won't be able to get on line till Wednesday evening, as I have accidently let my Internet bill laps! If it isn't one thing, then it's another!!… Continue

I was able to buy out the remaining stock of a surplus electronics warehouse that went out of business here in Austin, TX. In this batch of acquisitions, I got --
11 iMacs of various revisions,
1 8500 (mostly parts)
1 large box of SCSI/IDE hard drives
2 boxes of SCSI, power, and localtalk cables
and a personal laserwriter 300
all this for only $200, a good find I'd… Continue

So, I connected the new battery to the Mac Portable with alligator clips, and tried to power it up. The power switch does nothing. I'm not really clear on how that power switch is supposed to work, anyway. So, I hold down the two "programmer's buttons" and then press the space bar. The screen comes to life, but I get nothing but a crazy flashing screen seemingly designed to provoke epileptic attacks. See the movie:
I'm not sure what I should do now, except go… Continue

I finaly got to pick up my TAM today! I had an awesome day haning out wth my mom, and a great frend from Rogers, Arkansas!! We drove over to Eureka Springs, and picked up my TAM. We went back to Rogers, Nd had a wnderful evening! Mom and I got home around 1:45 am. I imediatly setup the TAM where my iMac was only yesterday.
Shortly after I started it up, a hum started in the left speaker, and not matter that I set the balance to 100% right, it kept on. After about 15-20 minutes, it… Continue

My Mac Portable arrived, and predictably the first task is to replace the dead battery. I like the way the original battery is easily installed and removed, and the battery itself is quite aesthetically pleasing as far as brick-shaped objects go.
The original battery is 6 Volts, 5 Amp-Hour. The replacement is 6 Volts, 4.2 Amp-Hour. You can buy…

Well I called the people at Apple today, and boy was I bowled over! I talke to a very nice lady, I think her name was Elizibeth. I told her my situation about needing to get my iMac serviced, but not knowing that I needed to register it when I bought my computer a little over 2 years ago!! She tookmy serial number, the code off the sheet in my Apple Care box, and told since it was past the first year she would have to talk to an administrator to see if they could register it. She told me shed… Continue

I mentioned this in my last post here, and finally it has come, a 300Mhz Blueberry Model has been added to my collection. Its become my favourite Mac to type on, purely because there is something magical about OS 9. Even with a paltry 32MB RAM, This machine performs admirably in Mac OS 9.2.2 and I hope to add a 256MB RAM chip and also a copy of OS X to this machine at a later stage. An upgraded hard drive will also be apart of this process. This machine nicely rounds out my Mac Collection by… Continue

I got a hold of my local Apple resaler this morning. They thought that I should try to reinstall my OS, and said that should take care of things, but if it didn't I should bring it in. I held down the option button on my wired keyboard like the tech told me to do, but I still didn't get anything on ether of the displays.
I also found out that even though I did buy the Apple Care Protection, I didn't know I had to register it sepretly from my computer. But they did tell me to call… Continue

Alright so, what's not to like about Mac collections? If you've got one, I'm sure you've gotten some grief from PC users, the 'non believers.' But from another Mac user? What's not to like?
Whenever I see pictures of huge, extensive Mac collections, I'm struck by two things. The first one, envy. Even though I don't like collections that much, I'd certainly like to go for a walk through someone's more extensive collection. The second thing that strikes me is a question, "What do they use… Continue

I love RetroMacCast, and have listened to just about no other podcast since I started it!! Love the profiles on the sight, and I know I'll get good use out of the
I wish that my first post could be a happier one, but it's not entirly so. I was printing off prices for the iPad off Apple's site last night, and my Mighty Mouse wouldn't work. I tried turning it off then on, bt it couldn't find a blue tooth signal. I tried my ble tooth keyboard, and it wouldn't work either.… Continue

I invested in a Canon XSi in early January. The investment has proven productive, as I have already snapped as many photos in two months as I did all of 2009. I have been using iPhoto more intensely too. It may be time to make the switch to Aperture soon.
I volunteer two hours a week at a local no-kill cat shelter called…
