System 7 presentation.

I found a 1991 Apple internal video featuring Chris Espinosa going through upgrading and the new features in System 7. They made for an interesting watch.…

Wound out its mortal coil...

The original Mac 512K, upgraded to 512KE, and then a Plus seen in my photo died after a rough double-hit power outage. I returned it to the archive for possible repair later and replaced it with another Plus to serve as our family room clock.

Booting my TiBook from CompactFlash

My poor TiBook is sick. :-( The original-generation 40GB Seagate Momentus hard drive is nearly five years old and is starting to do some funny things. I could replace it, but 2.5" IDE hard disks are getting harder to come by these days. If the machine died, what would I do with such a drive?

So instead of doing that, I decided to pick up a 16GB CompactFlash card ($70CDN) and the appropriate adapter ($20CDN). The verdict? The machine is… Continue

Getting Grackle 68k working on my Macintosh Plus 1mb

After listening to Episode 140 of RMC, I was inspired by Nathan's request for someone to get Grackle68k working on a 1mb machine.

After reloading System 6, I put Grackle68k on a floppy using my… Continue

New Mac: PB 1400c

About a week ago, I acquired a used PowerBook 1400c/117. It had a good load of software: ClarisWorks 4.0, MS Office 98, Adobe Illustrator 6 and 7, and Photoshop 4.0 running under OS 7.5.3 (12/27: now running 7.6.1 1/18: and 8.6). As far as hardware goes, it is adequate, with a 117 MHz 603e, 32 MB of RAM, a 1 GB hard drive (about 350 MB free; with this software, there is no way I am wiping it clean), an active matrix display, a floppy bay and an 8x CD-ROM bay, missing the front… Continue

Latest, but not least

As of last July, my Macintosh collection has a new entry, something I've been searching for quite a while -- a Macintosh SE/30, kindly donated by Roberto. Read all about it here.
