Where great old Macs live again!

alas, I can't save the G3's from my school for a strange reason, the administrators reason is that they are cataloged at the computer center at our town hall and he says that he has to take them there to take them out of the database. but me and my teacher are arguing that the can use the computers in out shop because they run 10.5 so he could get to his computer at the town hall useing screen sharing, but no luck. all I can do is watch them get carted off to the dump:-(.

I guess I will go for my next goal... trying to get a powerbook. anyone know where I can get one for free or very low cost?

Yes, for mostly every school county the computers are cataloged. There's lots of old mac's at this school I used to go to, I really don't think those ones are cataloged, but there's this sad G4 in the computer lab, very nice, it was sitting there the entire year... alone... with a giant sticker on the monitor... :(
I contacted the school and the school IT dude, but they didn't respond (Why, I think it's rudeness. But I doubt it)
You do have to get the computers taken out of the database before they leave the school, they are very strict with that.

I was fortunate enough to inherit a lot of 4 apple IIc (including screens, printer and loads of untouched manuals and floppy's) from my old high school. Good luck finding that powerbook !

I usually get told to take this to the skip, and it's 'ok if you miss'.

H&S or just basic accounting?

What I also don't like is that is that the schools can't sell the old computers at there school sales. the only way I could get the new iMac that I have is to go into the school and smuggle it out with the help of the computer lab teacher!!

A lot of schools will auction them off. I checked your state no auctions yet. Not sure if this will pick them all up.

Schools over here used to have garage sales to sell all the old stuff, some of it was broken. Now they just take it all to the recyclers where if they can not sell it for more then $50. They will shred it for basic metals.
Only ONE recycler is good. So here he is.

Try to find the wharehouse where they store all the stuff before they get rid of it. Ask for who is in charge of property disposition. Sometime you have ask more than a few times and different people as policies do change. You might also want to try putting a few posts in FreeCycle. I managed to get some Apple II items just recently when a teacher posted that the school was getting rid of them.

Take Care
