I'm in the process of setting up my hobby studio (hey, I won't deny that I am a geek) and was looking for some inspiration - Think Different posters, possibly making a large medieval banner (I am in the middle of building a fantasy town/city to house my ever-growing collection of wargame miniatures and, as I don't get time to play, am making them into a large static display, with lighting, etc). When I found this
and was intrigued by the idea.
Of course, we love our retro computers on here, but the idea of creating something that was both in keeping with the hobby feel of my modelling/painting and also actually usable from a technology point of view is very tempting indeed.
I could see a wood-and-brass clad Duo/Duo Dock, or a Laptop in a campaign chest (Mac Portable?). I even love the idea of building the whole system into an "antique" wood and leather desk, so that it's like a cross between some Bond-style gadget and something out of Jules Verne.
Given that I live in an old (like 15th Century) building, I can see it fitting the wood-beam-and-oak-floor decor very nicely, too.
If I can convince my wife to let me go crazy with the Dremel, I'll sort out some pictures of the end result. If not, I hope this has at least inspired some other computer nut to do something a little unusual!
