Tuesday July 15, 2014 - Apple and IBM come together to make iOS a lethal threat in the enterprise market. The tech giants announced a new partnership that looks to revolutionize mobile device use in enterprise with customized apps and services for iPhone and iPad.
When I first heard this news, I thought immediately of the infamous picture of Steve Jobs standing in front of the marble IBM wall giving the middle finger. That was 1983. This is 2014.
I also thought of the great print ad Apple released after IBM's entrance to the PC market titled, "Welcome, IBM. Seriously." But, that was 1981. This is 2014.
I thought of Steve Jobs' speech in 1983 at Apple's annual sales meeting in Hawaii, preaching about the history of IBM in the computer market and then finishing by saying the lines, "It looks like IBM wants it all and is aiming its guns at its last obstacle to industry control...... Apple. Will Big Blue dominate the ENTIRE information age? The ENTIRE computer industry? Was George Orwell right about 1984?" as the "1984" Super Bowl ad aired. That was 1983. This is 2014.
These are just a few of the examples of how things have changed over the last 30-35 years. It's also amazing how Apple has changed. It's amazing how 30 years ago, Apple was attacking IBM in every way they could.... and in the present, they are now parters and have resolved all hatred they felt all those years ago.
