MINNEAPOLIS-January 22nd, 2009 - FirstTech and Baca Productions today announced the Minnesota premiere of the new feature-length documentary film, “Welcome to Macintosh.” The premiere will be held on Saturday, February 7th at 4:00 p.m. at the Suburban World Theatre in Minneapolis.
"Welcome to Macintosh" is the first documentary of its kind to mix history, criticism and an unapologetic revelry of all things Apple into a movie experience. The film explores the early years of Apple, the many challenges Apple has faced, and what the future may hold for the company and it's products.
Former Apple employees, engineers and community members offer insight on the company's innovations, failures, cultural impact and what the future may be like beyond the reign of its co-founder Steve Jobs. Interviews include notable Apple personalities Andy Hertzfeld, co-creator of the original Macintosh, Guy Kawasaki, long time Mac evangelist, Leander Kahney, author of the book "Cult of Mac", Jim Reekes, creator of the Macintosh start-up sound and Ron Wayne, an original co-founder of the Apple Computer Company.
Steve Wozniak, co-founder of Apple Computer commented after it’s showing at Macworld earlier in January, “So much on the mark..I’ve been involved with some other independent films and this is by far the best one I’ve seen.”
The showing is free for individuals who have passes, which are only available at FirstTech, 2640 Hennepin Ave So, Minneapolis and will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Julio Ojeda-Zapata, consumer-technology reporter and columnist for the St Paul Pioneer Press, and features co-directors Rob Baca and Josh Rizzo as well as local figures featured in the film.
FirstTech is a Twin Cities Apple dealer featured in the film as being the longest continuously running Apple dealer in the United States. First Tech recently celebrated 31 years as an Apple dealer.
