Just found out something awful .... My school just chucked out 3 PowerBook 100's and a couple of other older power books ... Why, Because the 'Other' Power books had no power adapter and the 100's were 'Old crap and useless.'.
Sweet! Thanks for the heads up on that. I was not aware of the sequel. What I find out about what is good on BBC is a bit hit or miss as I do not have BBC America yet. My wife and I are big Dr. Who and spin offs fans as well as a number of our friends. Our friend Matt introduced us to Life on Mars so I can't wait to tell him about Ashes to Ashes.
Luckily I was at school during a period when a large number of the computers were being updated. My high school also switched over to using Windows PCs shortly after I arrived which meant that practically all the Macs were gradually disposed of. I befriended the school's technicians and they frequently told me about stuff that was going to be dumped and sometimes even huted down specific parts / peripherals for me. They had everything from Mac Pluses to early PowerMacs.
Some of the rest of my collection came from when I was at university, where they occasionally dumped Macs in the skips behind the various departments. Again, I befriended some technicians who found me a few great machines like my Quadra 700 and SE/30.
I used to have 5200 too, and it is an excellent design but way too slow. I think it is only up to 5400 and 5500 it has become an excellent and fast computer! If you have never used 5400/5500 before, try it out.
I still have a problem with people, and schools just dumping Macs in the garbage. Wow, I just don't understand why they don't just set them out front on the street for someone to pick up. I do like the stack of computers you have in your photo.
I've never used a 5200, but I have a 5400, I think it is. I'll have to look them up on LEM and see if they are similar.
Wow! Good luck on the iBooks! Do you have a friend on the inside, who could you you a warning on when they are going to send those to the skip?
That's pretty cool that your friend has such vintage media like the old ads. I hope he puts them on youTube at some time so we can get to see them. I get such a kick out of the old ads. My all time favorite, so far, is the one I have on my page, the 'Toasted' one. That just makes me laugh for some reason.
