Macintosh Restoration Part Two

I have just taken delivery of a Macintosh Plus and a Macintosh SE. Both were very kindly given to me, by a university lecturer who has just retired. Both machines where stored away in a back room, not being used for years. He found them when he was cleaning out his belongings and did not want them to be skipped. I have chosen the Plus, to be the machine that I will work on to continue my blog about restoring and cleaning. In …

Macintosh Restoration Part One

Introduction I have been asked to blog about my cleaning and restoration work few times. So this is my attempt to explain the processes that I go through. I should start by saying that I have no professional training in electronics or working inside Macintosh computers. Everything I have learnt is from reading books and articles online. Therefore I can not take any responsibly if you damage your machine or yourself.

Tools and Aids I will start with my work area, I have mine… Continue

LC 475 & System 7.5.5

My wife is away for a couple of days, so I decided it was a great opportunity to look at my new Macs and see what's what. My focus turn towards the LC 475, as this was the only one which booted. I was pleased to note that the LC 475 had 36mb of RAM and a 160mb hard disk. Along with its 25Mhz processor it made it my most powerfully 68k Mac.

The first job I tackled was to back up the contents of the hard drive and add any new applications or utilities to my collection of old software,… Continue

Five New Macs

I recently won five Macs on ebay for £5.50, they where sold as not working or for spares. I thought I would give it a try and see what I get. The Macs where located about two and a half hours away from me, so I had to wait for a spare Saturday morning to go and collect them.

The journey down there was trouble free, I met the seller and loaded up with my new toys. Then seller had collected them from local car boot sales, but had run out of space and wanted to have a clear out. He… Continue

mmm, what's the problem with it at the moment? maybe I should make an new bootdisk on a 1.44mb disk where everything can fit for you to try. At least the first bootdisk worked fine for me, that's why I find it odd that you can't get it working

I should pay more attention when I read! ( I had just woken up), I mistakenly read "wrong" instead of "strong"!
You seem to have quite a big collection btw, quite nicely ordered and presented

Staff very vocal and the store is great. I work 500 yards from it so will be paying a few visits!
