Want to write about the Newton?

Writing about the Newton MessagePad is hard work. All the updates, the new applications, the constant upgrades Apple sends our way.

...wait, what? That doesn't happen at all.

But that doesn't mean it's not exciting and fun to mess with Newtons. Especially us classic Mac lovers: we experiment with them simply because we can. Even in this post-iPhone age.

I've always wanted a few guest writers at my site, Surely there are folks out there with… Continue

Original Mac packaging + other stuff

1. Bottom picture of the Mac box

2. Note the three prongs on the modem

3. Modem has yellowed horribly -… Continue

Hacking the Apple TV

Well, as some would know, I purchased an Apple TV late last year. I got a second hand 40Gb HDD model running v1.0 of the firmware with the purpose of using it to stream video from my G4 Xserve over a 802.11g network.

As most of my video collection was in AVI/DIVX format in order to work with my old Elgato EyeHome, I had two choices:

1). Re-encode every video file that I had (which would have taken months)

2). Hack the Apple TV to accept the AVI/DIVX… Continue

G4 Xserve blower replacements

Before we start.....

PLEASE NOTE: I am not responsible for any damage done to your beautiful G4 Xserve if you follow any of the information below!

Ok, now that I've got that out of the way....

Haven't had much time to do any tinkering of late. Out of necessit, however, I've done some investigating on replacement G4 Xserve blowers. You see, my G4 Xserve started making even more noise than usual recently, and shortly after that, the CPU blower… Continue

Apple II games coming to Android!

When I was young, I wrote my first Apple II space arcade game called

Infiltrator. It is my first assembly program and has multiple levels where the user needs to control a spaceship and navigate through waves of alien attacks.

Many years later, my son Ding Wen wrote his first space arcade game for the Apple IIGS - …

Doodle Kids for Google Android

Due to a harddisk crash of the iMac hosting the iPhone SDK, we are now unable to do iPhone development until we get the machine back and set up the environment again. In the meantime, we focus entirely on Google Android development. Android OS is so fun to program and it finally gives me a chance to teach my son Ding Wen Java programming. The result? Ding Wen has ported his Doodle Kids (an Apple IIGS and iPhone program) to Android phone! Doodle Kids for Android has some features not available… Continue

At this year’s Macworld the Apple faithful had a real treat in store, but little did I know just how good the treat would be. Ahead of Macworld I had invites to two new movies that were out to cover Apple as a company and the cult following....
