Vodcasting with CamTwist

As part of a weekly community radio program that I contribute to, we now run a regular vodcast of the studio during the show. Up until now one of my colleagues has been using a Netbook with some Windows software to do some basic picture in picture. Problem for me was that we couldn't include the iSight camera (in my Macbook) as part of the feed.

Problem solved! Mac software to the rescue (again). CamTwist is a wonderful… Continue

Apple II from ebay...

Well 2 of my ebay Apple II's have arrived. Both are Apple IIe computers. One is PAL and does not appear to be working. The other has an extended keyboard and is NTSC (probably an Apple IIe enhanced) with extra ram. When I get the chance I'll post some pictures, maybe someone can help me identify it. There are two broken keys on the that machine (the reset and delete), but the computer works. The Apple IIc arrived also but I have to build a powersupply for it be I can "fire" it up.

I have… Continue

Lisa Long Weekend

So almost 2 years after i got my first Lisa, I've finally done something about getting them running.

You have to remember, 26 - 27 year old components are a bit temperamental, and I've had to do my fair share of electrolytic replacements in the Lisa and Profile power supplies, as well as the voltage regulator repairs I'll speak f another time.

So what's new I have learned this weekend,

a) At memory address line 240, the first 20 characters represents the serial… Continue

Almost there!

More progress has been made to my new Plastic Pal Who's Fun to Play With (tm). Before painting the front I had to get it ready for the banana logo. About an hour with an exacto knife accomplished this quite nicely.

The next step was to fill in the gaps where parts of the apple shape were larger than the banana. I wrapped my logo in plastic wrap and filled the gaps with epoxy putty.

Tada! Here it is after… Continue

G3 update

wow its been a while since I posted about my blue and white G3, well here is what I have done to it:

- Installed Mac OS 9.2.2 on it.

- added a 18.25 GB hard drive along with the 12.69 GB hard drive already in the system

I was weird when i first opened it I discovered that there was a G4 processor in it but the system wasn't upgraded in any way even the processor in the slot says that it is a G4. I thought that maybe it was a hardware bug but when i use the hardware… Continue

Japan makes more single

Japan makes more single malt whisky than Scotland but has developed a taste for the tipple from St George's Distillery near Thetford, in Norfolk, and is importing 400 bottles every month. The only whisky distillery in England is exporting its spirit 6,000 miles to Japan.…

IIgs Remote Boot - Success!

Last week I managed to get a copy of AppleShare Server 3.0. This version has the ability to remote boot an Apple IIgs or IIe with a Workstation Card. I installed it onto my Macintosh Classic with 4mb of RAM running System 7.0.1.

The install process was not entirely smooth. The server software installed without a hitch. The included "Apple II Setup" v2.2 disk did not want to play nice. Luckily Apple has version 3.0 on their Older Software… Continue

Banana Jr. Update

I've completed a small but essential piece of the Banana Jr. The logo for the front of the system turned out better than I expected.

Here is a side by side comparison. As you can see the logo is quite a bit larger but if I had made it any smaller it would have been very difficult to work with. It was made by using some clear double sided tape to adhere the print to the bottom of some plexiglass and then cutting it on a scroll saw. I then rounded… Continue
