Finally Getting to the 2300c

After some overseas travel, busy family filled weekends and a lingering cold, I found a couple of hours tonight to start cleaning up the 2300c. It's hard to believe it's been about two months since I won the auction and it arrived!

For cleanup, I used a combination of electronics cleaning wipes, Q-Tips and some rubbing alcohol. Since it's just the exterior I was dealing with, I was mostly concerned about drying out the plastics with too much alcohol content. The pieces weren't in too… Continue

Misleading iPhone 3G ad banned in UK

PC Pro (UK Magazine/Site) did a remake of the iPhone 3G ad that touts the speed of the new iPhone. What was done in a 30 second spot, took more than 2 minutes and 20 seconds on a WiFi connection.

The Advertising Standards Authority claimed that the original ad was too misleading and had Apple pull the ad.

The side by side comparison can be found here.

Is… Continue

Trusted production G5 - shuttered!

After serving Chimp 65 productions for the last 4 years, our beloved Mac G5 is dead. It happened today, MacHEADS assistant editor broke the news to producers Kobi and Ron Shely. Apparently- while digitizing materials for a new documentary (with the latest installed Avid Media Composer…) rows of pixels filled the screen. At first, a restart seemed to be the cure, but a gray apple… Continue

What is this?

My son just saw my new Apple IIe, then I showed him the manual and told him that these need command line prompts.

His response was, "This is Pagan Savagery!"

Understandable from a kid that grew up with Neintendo, and Playstation and everything has a friendly GUI.

I was called a Nerd today.......

This has never happened to me before. My partner at work has been asking me to hook his father up with a cheap, Apple laptop. He knows I collect, and he sees all the different laptops come in and out of the station. He asked me to see if I would like to trade his fathers old computer equipment for a PowerBook that he can use to check his e-mail and write with.

I went with my partner to his parents home and I brought a Wallstreet and a Pismo with me to show them. I showed them the OS… Continue

Retro Machines - Largest Private Collection in Australia (maybe world) in pictures

CIO magazine has a huge slideshow from the collection of a guy down in Australia. You might have a lot of machines, but this guy's probably weigh more!

Slideshow -- Tech of Yesteryear: Where Old Computers Find Their Final Resting Place

Text from CIO - "Max Burnet has turned his home in the leafy suburbs of Sydney into arguably Australia’s… Continue

Bushel of Apple

I was in the process of adding several apple news and highlights to my page, when I discovered it took forever to load all the "widgets".

So I created a mashup of all the RSS feeds I wanted, and using Widgetbox I created a single widget you can add to your page using all the feeds.

You can see the widget in action here, or you can add the widget to your RetroMacCast page by going here...…

Pismo and Passion: Your Mighty Muse

Passion. Passion finds it's way into may aspects of life. Passion in Love. Passion in Vocation. Passion in Art. Passion in Food. Passion in Computers. It's hard to keep up passion. That's why Shakespeare would have a muse. Uncouth as it is, his muse (or muses) would keep him inspired and driven. For a while at least. Which goes to highlight that nothing can keep our passions at a manic level indefinitely. Nor is passion supposed to. We move on. Something else catches our eye.... as Paul Simon… Continue

Brutal Deluxe Back in Action

Well, we know that Brutal Deluxe the French GS development group kind of come out retirement a few months ago but I had thought they had only woken up long enough to post their old stuff and information.

That's not entirely correct. They (in particular Antoine), have gone nuts and have started writing FST (File System Translators) for GS/OS. Even Apple didn't really finish the ones they've done but BD have got an rDOS (a custom OS used for… Continue

Conversational German for the Mac User IV

Spar dir die Zeit, Kopfschmerz, und Jammer. Kauf ein Macintosh.

Save yourself the time, headache, and sorrow. Buy a Macintosh.

Wann das Internet fragt, “Bist du mindestens 18 Jahre alt?”, ist die Antwort immer dieselbe: Ja.

When the internet asks, "are you 18 years old?", the answer is always the same: yes.

Upgrading my iPod Mini

I may live and breathe technology, but I refuse to give in to cell phone and MP3 player trends. I semi-reluctantly bought an iPod mini after the prices dropped in early 2005. 4 years later, the battery is nearing the end of its life and I was thinking about making the jump to a new Nano... but what I always really wanted was an iPod mini with more storage.

I just put a fresh battery from Sonnet Technologies in my iPod mini. I also took the opportunity to swap out the 4GB Hitachi… Continue
